Within the framework of the “Healthy Childhood” program, part of REDD+ Chaco Vivo project, the Children’s Week was held in the town of Puerto Casado. The initiative had the objectives of promoting healthy entertainment, oral health and community participation, thus contributing to the primary objectives such as health and well-being (SDG 3) and quality education (SDG 4).
In the Basic School No. 2894 Gral. Bernardino Caballero, the “Cepillatón” (a word game referring to toothbrushes) was held. More than 180 boys and girls, from kindergarten to sixth grade, participated in this event that promoted the importance of oral hygiene. The students received a complete oral health kit that included all the necessary elements for correct tooth brushing. A clown, Dr. Firulais, was part of the cause to entertain and educate students on the basic care of oral hygiene.
On the other hand, in the Livio Fariña indigenous community, a Ceramics Workshop was held for boys and girls. The participants had the opportunity to express their creativity through ceramic art. Subsequently, a snack was held with 75 boys and girls, and the activity culminated with the delivery of gifts and a balloon show by Dr. Firulais.
Likewise, the Victoria Paraguay former factory opened its doors to celebrate Children’s Day for the second year, in a day that brought together around 350 boys and girls. The event included games, a balloon show, snacks and was open to the entire community.
This initiative is part of a sustained effort, given that last year the first festivity for boys and girls was held in the same place, with great success and acceptance by the community. With the help of all the workers in the first edition, more than 120 boys and girls attended, accompanied by their parents.
From the Social team of REDD+ Chaco Vivo project we reaffirm the commitment to impact quality education (SDG 4) and health and well-being (SDG 3) of the community of Puerto Casado and the indigenous communities nearby, through these activities that seek to provide a safe, educational space and fun for boys and girls.
