CERAMIC WORKSHOP 3RD EDITION OF 2023

During the week of August 7 to 11, the third edition of this year’s Ceramic Workshop was held in the Livio Fariña indigenous community, with the ceramic masters Vicenta Rodriguez and Elena Dielma from Kambuchi Apo (part of the Pottery Association of Caaguazú, Paraguay, that aims to make artisan work visible to rescue the native culture of the country).

The teachers dedicated themselves to strengthening the ceramic techniques already learned by the women and children of the community. On the first day, 25 ceramic pieces were burned, the rest of the days the participants dedicated themselves to producing different utensils. Also, work was done on the formalization of the artisan committee through the experience of the teachers. One of the main objectives of the workshop is to form and legalize the creation of the committee of artisans of the community.

At the end of the week, approximately 40 pieces were made during the workshop, but they were not put in fire yet (the firing or cooking of the pieces is necessary for their completion and curing according to ancient traditions. The final result is a hard and resistant piece). The women of the community promised to carry out their first burning without the teachers during the course of this week.

Since 2022, we are focused on promoting decent work (SDG 8) and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation (SDG 9) through quality education (SDG 4).

These ceramic workshops have been a constant in the community, fostering invaluable exchanges between the indigenous artisans of Livio Fariña and the master potters of Kambuchi Apo. The promotion of indigenous art is a fundamental axis in the development and preservation of the community, also contributing to its local economy.
