Atenil Paraguay and the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FACEN) of the National University of Asunción signed a scientific-technical interinstitutional cooperation agreement on Friday, August 11. The act was carried out in the Judith Dos Santos room, within the FACEN facilities, located on the university campus of the city of San Lorenzo, Paraguay.
The objective of the aforementioned signed agreement is to form a basis for cooperation between the company and the institution, which are already working together in monitoring the biodiversity of the REDD+ Chaco Vivo project, which is being developed on properties in Atenil Paraguay. A FACEN team is in charge of installing camera traps in the almost 200,000 hectares of Chaco forest of the project (the biggest REDD+ of Paraguay), as well as processing data and preparing reports of high scientific value.
On the other hand, both parties agreed to jointly carry out research that leads to a better understanding of the fauna of the Chaco, a more complete record of each species, and the development of research papers on various subjects, such as the interaction of native fauna with the productive sectors, way to find the best way to conserve the forest and the species that inhabit it, in harmony with the agro-livestock production systems, of enormous importance for the country.
The Paraguayan Chaco is home to a significant number of nationally and internationally threatened species, and several of them have already been detected within the limits of the Chaco Vivo project, so the largest REDD+ project in Paraguay is of enormous importance for the survival of these animals. Some, for example, are the jaguar, the giant armadillo, the tagua (a species of boar only living in the Gran Chaco area), among many others.
The agreement, which will last for five years, was signed by the dean of FACEN Prof. Lic. Constantino Nicolás Guefos Kapsalis, by the president of Atenil, Abg. Kiantar Betancourt, and the CEO of the company, Lic. Diego Puente.
